October 13 - Ajax, ON - DuPont Performance Coatings ( has converted one hundred Canadian collision repair shops to waterborne basecoat. The conversions ranged from smaller family-owned facilities to large production-oriented facilities. “To increase productivity” and “to become a market leader” are the reasons most frequently cited by shop owners for converting.
"The one hundred conversion milestone is significant, but it’s really just the beginning," DPC Canada Country Manager, Brian Edwards, said. "As an industry, we have a long way to go, and it’s essential that all the stakeholders work closely through this change in order to ensure a strong and healthy future." For shops interested in converting to waterborne basecoat, the first step is a comprehensive shop assessment. Once the shop is ready to be converted, the painter(s) is enrolled in an intensive three-day technical training course, following which a DPC sales representative will work one-on-one with the shop to ensure a successful conversion. DPC training centres are now taking bookings into November and December for DuPont Cromax Pro, Spies Hecker Permahyd and Standox Standohyd training. “We are extremely pleased with the demand for waterborne. To date over 570 shops have entered our waterborne conversion program,” Edwards said.
